The Tennessee Temporary Insurance Producer license

Temporary Insurance Producer

Keeps a Tennessee producer's book being serviced when the producer dies, is disabled or is called up. Nobody applies for it on their own account: every one of the four grounds is somebody else's misfortune, and the applicant is the person left holding the business.

Every way to qualify

  1. Route 1 Apply on one of the four grounds

No state exam for this license

    • Being the surviving spouse or court-appointed personal representative of a licensed insurance producer who has died or become mentally or physically disabled, so that the business can be sold, or the producer can recover and return to it, or new personnel can be trained and licensed to run it.

    • or

Being a member or employee of a business entity licensed as an insurance producer, on the death or disability of an individual designated in the business entity application or on the license.

    • or

Being the designee of a licensed insurance producer entering active service in the armed forces of the United States of America.

    • or

Any other circumstance in which the commissioner considers that the public interest will be served by issuing the license.

The four grounds are Pearson's Tennessee candidate handbook, downloadable from the page cited here, which sets them out where TDCI's own procedure page says only that "a temporary license may be issued as provided by TCA, Title 56, Chapter 6". The application is the Uniform Application for Individual with a $50 filing fee, and it goes to the Department directly rather than through NIPR: the fee has to be an insurance company check, a certified check, a cashier's check or a money order made payable to the Department. The handbook adds that a candidate may not hand in a temporary application at a test center. No course and no examination attaches to the temporary license itself.

Tennessee asks no course and no examination for a temporary license, so there is nothing for a school to sell against it. No national seller prices a product for it.
