The Tennessee Public Adjuster license
Public Adjuster
Adjusts a Tennessee loss for the insured. It is the only public adjuster license on this site that asks for errors and omissions cover, at $500,000, and its $50,000 bond is the largest figure recorded here for the role, tied with Illinois, Louisiana and Mississippi.

Every way to qualify
More than one route leads to this license, and which one you take changes what you study and whether you sit the exam. There is no pre-licensing course among them: this license is qualified for by sitting the examination or a license held in another state.
-
Route 1 Pass the public adjuster examination
State exam required
Financial responsibility
-
A $50,000 surety bond on the Department's own form and proof of an errors and omissions policy of $500,000, both filed with the application
and an office
-
An office maintained in the applicant's home state of residence, open to the public by reasonable appointment or regular business hours or both
No course anywhere on TDCI's requirements page, and the examination is Pearson VUE's with a 48-hour wait before the application can be filed. The filing fee is $100, twice the producer's. The office requirement is the NAIC public adjuster model act's rather than a Tennessee invention, and seven other states here carry it: Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire and North Dakota. What Tennessee adds to the model is the errors and omissions policy, which no other public adjuster license on this site asks for. Twenty-four hours of continuing education including ethics fall due biennially once licensed, which is a renewal obligation rather than a way in.

Route 2 Hold the license in the home state
Exempt from the state exam
-
a public adjuster license in the applicant's home state, verified through the National Producer Database or certified by that state
Tenn. Code Ann. 56-6-908 is the non-resident section TDCI's requirements cite, and its procedure asks for no examination: home state verification through the PDB, or a letter of certification where the PDB cannot answer. The $50,000 bond and the $500,000 errors and omissions policy are still required.
