The New Hampshire Portable Electronics Limited Lines license

Portable Electronics Limited Lines

Licenses the vendor rather than the person at the counter. One license reaches every location the vendor sells from, and the fee depends on how many locations that is.

Every way to qualify

  1. Route 1 Apply as the business and name a person responsible for compliance

No state exam for this license

    • A sworn application on the commissioner’s form naming the employee, officer or authorized representative responsible for compliance, and the location of the home office; and, where more than half the applicant’s revenue comes from this insurance, the same information for every officer, director and holder of ten percent or more of any class of securities registered under federal securities law

RSA 402-K:2, I requires the vendor to hold a limited lines license and RSA 402-K:2, II then makes it cover everybody: the license authorizes any employee or authorized representative of the vendor to sell or offer the coverage at each location where the vendor does portable electronics transactions. RSA 402-K:7, II(a) asks for one name, the employee or officer responsible for the vendor’s compliance, and adds a threshold: a vendor drawing more than half its revenue from portable electronics insurance discloses every officer, director and holder of ten percent or more of any registered class of securities. One consequence sits in the adjuster chapter rather than here, and it is the most specific exemption in New Hampshire insurance law: RSA 402-B:2, III(d) excuses from adjuster licensing a person who collects and enters portable electronics claims information through an automated claims adjudication system, provided no more than 25 such people are supervised by one licensed adjuster or producer. The fee is tiered by size rather than fixed, which two New Hampshire limited lines do and no other license here does: RSA 402-K:7, V caps it at $1,000 initial and $500 renewal, but at $100 for a vendor operating at ten or fewer locations in the state. Licenses expire on the second 31 May from issue and run two years after that. A license allowed to lapse can be reinstated within 24 months at double the unpaid renewal fee.

No national seller sells a course for this license. Nothing could: the license goes to the business, no examination stands in front of it, and the staff who sell under it are covered by the licensee rather than qualified themselves.
