  1. Route 1 Hold a Nevada general lines producer license for six months

    State exam required

    • 1 year a Nevada producer of insurance license for general lines, held for at least 6 months

    • or

      a surplus lines broker license issued by another state and still in force there

    NRS 685A.120(1) makes the license a precondition of acting as, holding out as, or being a surplus lines broker for any subject of insurance whose insured's home state is Nevada. 685A.120(2) is the qualification and it is somebody's existing license plus a judgment: a person licensed by Nevada as a producer of insurance for general lines for at least six months, or licensed as a surplus lines broker in another state and still licensed there, whom the Commissioner deems competent and trustworthy with respect to the handling of surplus lines, may be licensed on application and payment of the fees, on submitting the child support statement of 685A.127, and on passing any examination the Commissioner prescribes on the subject of surplus lines. There is no pre-licensing course anywhere in the chapter and no hour count. The six months is a floor on the producer license rather than on experience of surplus lines, and the site records it as one year because the schema counts whole years; the statute's words are "at least 6 months".
