The Nevada Reinsurance Intermediary license

Reinsurance Intermediary

Covers both the broker who places reinsurance for a ceding insurer and the manager who binds or manages a reinsurer's assumed business. Nevada builds it on a producer license rather than on a course, and puts a bond and errors and omissions cover on the manager only.

Every way to qualify

  1. Route 1 Hold a Nevada producer license and apply

No state exam for this license

    • a Nevada producer of insurance license

    • or

a Nevada nonresident intermediary for reinsurance license, or a Nevada nonresident manager for reinsurance license, for somebody acting from outside the state

NRS 681A.330 makes "intermediary" cover the broker for reinsurance and the manager for reinsurance together, which is why one page carries both. The qualification is somebody's existing license: NRS 681A.400(1) to (4) bar a person from acting as a broker or a manager for reinsurance for a domestic, foreign or alien insurer unless they are a licensed producer in Nevada or licensed here as a nonresident intermediary or nonresident manager for reinsurance. NRS 681A.410 then lets the Commissioner issue the license to a person who has complied with 681A.250 to 681A.480, on a written application and the fee at 680B.010. There is no course and no examination anywhere in it. Two duties attach to the manager and not to the broker, at 681A.400(5): a bond complying with NRS 679B.175 in an amount the Commissioner accepts for the reinsurer's protection, and an errors and omissions policy in an amount the Commissioner accepts. The bond is security rather than a payment, so no cost page totals it.
