The Nevada Insurance Consultant license
Insurance Consultant
Sells advice about insurance for a fee and nothing else. NRS 683C.070 forbids the holder to hold a producer or surplus lines broker license in any line at the same time, and NRS 683C.080 forbids employment by, partnership with or any payment from a producer, a broker or an insurer, so the license is defined as much by what its holder may not be as by what they may do.

Every way to qualify
More than one route leads to this license, and which one you take changes what you study and whether you sit the exam. There is no pre-licensing course among them: this license is qualified for by sitting the examination or a license held in another state.

Route 1 Pass the producer examination for each line
State exam required
NRS 683C.035(1) is the closed list of what the Commissioner must find and there is no course in it: eighteen years of age, no act that is a ground for refusal under NRS 683A.451, the fees paid and non-refundable, and each required examination passed. NRS 683C.030(2) is the examination duty, left to a regulation the Commissioner makes. The paper is the producer's own. Pearson VUE's Nevada candidate handbook heads its examination table "INSURANCE PRODUCER OR INSURANCE CONSULTANT" and lists the same seven papers under it, at $37 for a single line and $47 for a Life/Health or Property/Casualty combination, which matches NRS 683C.035(5): a consultant qualifies in one or more of the lines at NRS 683A.261(1)(a) to (d), being life, health, property and casualty. NRS 683C.030(3) and 683C.035(4) both make the license valid for three years from issue, and 683C.040 renews it in three-year periods.

Route 2 Hold a similar license in your home state
Exempt from the state exam
-
a similar insurance consultant license in the state the applicant is a resident of
NRS 683C.035(1)(d) excuses the examination for an applicant who "is a resident of another state and holds a similar license in that state". It is a single clause with no good-standing test, no time limit and no reciprocal-treatment condition, which is unlike the reciprocity Nevada writes for its producers.

The papers a Nevada insurance consultant sits are the producer papers, so what prepares somebody for this license is on the Life, Health, Property, Casualty and Personal Lines pages, which carry six sellers each. Nothing any seller offers is named for the consultant license, and there is no separate consultant paper to prepare for: Pearson VUE lists the producer and the consultant under one heading and gives them the same seven examinations.
