Every way to qualify

More than one route leads to this license, and which one you take changes what you study and whether you sit the exam. There is no pre-licensing course among them: this license is qualified for by sitting the examination or a license held in another state.

  1. Route 1 Pass the examination

    State exam required

Nevada asks no pre-licensing course of an adjuster. The Division's own page for this license sets out what an applicant does and the education it names is the 24 hours of continuing education owed each license term, three of them ethics, which falls after licensure rather than before it. The Division heads this license "License Optional", and it means it: an employee of an authorized insurance company who investigates, negotiates or settles property, casualty, surety or workers' compensation claims from an office within Nevada may hold it but is not required to. SB274 of the 2023 session then made it compulsory in one direction: Nevada workers' compensation claims may only be administered from outside the state by somebody who is employed by an insurance company and licensed here as a company adjuster. An independent contractor takes the independent adjuster license instead. Individuals only; there is no business entity version. Three bars come from the parent Adjuster page and they apply to every adjuster license Nevada issues. A licensee may hold only one type of adjuster license in Nevada. A licensee may not be in the business of repairing auto bodies or own a controlling interest in one. And a licensee may not be concurrently licensed as a producer for property, casualty or surety, or as a surplus lines broker, with the single exception of a bail agent. No other state on this site forbids an adjuster from also holding a producer license.

  2. Route 2 Designate Nevada, or hold the license in a state that examines for it

    Exempt from the state exam

    • an adjuster or designated home state adjuster license from any state that requires an examination for it

The Division states the test rather than naming the states: Nevada is reciprocal with, and accepts a designated home state license from, any state that requires an examination for the adjuster or designated home state adjuster license. A non-resident whose own home state does not issue the license type or line of authority sought may designate another state instead, and an applicant who designates Nevada takes Nevada's own requirements in full.

No national seller sells a course for this license. The examination is the same one the independent adjuster sits, and every Nevada adjuster product a national seller offers is on that page.
