Places or manages reinsurance between insurers. One Nebraska license covers both halves of the trade, the broker who places it and the manager who runs the book, and at $250 it is the joint most expensive license the Department issues.

The qualification

Neb. Rev. Stat. 44-5603(1) and (2) let the work be done by "a licensed producer or reinsurance intermediary in this state", so an existing Nebraska producer needs nothing further and everybody else takes the intermediary license. (4) has the director issue it to any person, firm, association or corporation that has complied with the Reinsurance Intermediary Act, and a license issued to a firm authorizes its members and designated employees.

For a resident reinsurance intermediary-manager, 44-5603(3) lets the director require a bond in an amount from an insurer acceptable to the director for the protection of the reinsurer, and an errors and omissions policy in an amount acceptable to the director. Both are discretionary and neither is a fixed figure.

$250 for the license and $250 for each renewal, charged the same to an individual and to an agency, which ties surplus lines for the highest figure on the Department's schedule.
Neb. Rev. Stat. 44-5603, inside the Reinsurance Intermediary Act at 44-5601 to 44-5613. There is no examination and no pre-licensing course. Nebraska issues one license where eleven states on this site issue two, a broker license and a manager license, and 44-5603.01 adds the nonresident limb: reciprocal licensure plus continuing education. Being a licensed reinsurance intermediary in Nebraska carries a consent to jurisdiction under 44-5603.02.
