The Nebraska Limited Line Pre-Need Funeral Insurance license

Limited Line Pre-Need Funeral Insurance

Insurance bought in advance to pay for a funeral, and a line of authority Nebraska names in its own statute at 44-4054. Kansas names the same line at K.S.A. 40-4903(c)(3) and Kentucky names it as a limited line. The examination reaches it, because Nebraska's exemptions do not, and no pre-licensing course is required.

Every way to qualify

More than one route leads to this license, and which one you take changes what you study and whether you sit the exam. There is no pre-licensing course among them: this license is qualified for by sitting the examination, a license held in another state or moving here already licensed.

  1. Route 1 Pass the examination

    State exam required

Neb. Rev. Stat. 44-4052(1) asks a resident individual applying for a producer license to pass a written examination unless exempt under 44-4056, 44-4069 or 44-9304(4), and 44-4053(1) is the closed list of what the director must find before approving the application: at least 18 years old, no act that is a ground for denial under 44-4059, the fees at 44-4064 paid, and the examinations passed for the lines applied for. No course is in it, which is where Nebraska's zero is read. Nebraska also has no cap on how many times the examination may be sat: 44-4052(4) says only that somebody who fails or misses one reapplies and pays again. Read the exemptions rather than the label on this line. Nebraska's three examination exemptions are 44-4056 for somebody licensed elsewhere, 44-4069 for the operator of a self-service storage facility and 44-9304(4) for a travel insurance producer. None of them reaches this line, so calling it a limited line in the statute's own heading does not excuse it from the test, and Nebraska differs from Missouri and Arizona on exactly this point.

  2. Route 2 Hold the same line in another state

    Exempt from the state exam

    • an insurance producer license carrying the Limited Line Pre-Need Funeral Insurance line of authority in another state

Neb. Rev. Stat. 44-4056(1). Somebody previously licensed for the same lines of authority in another state completes no examination. The exemption holds while that other license is current, or if the application arrives within 90 days of its cancellation and either the prior state certifies good standing at that point or the NAIC producer database shows it for the line being asked for.

  3. Route 3 Move to Nebraska and apply within 90 days

    Exempt from the state exam

    • 90 days Licensed as an insurance producer in another state carrying the Limited Line Pre-Need Funeral Insurance line of authority there, and applying to become a Nebraska resident licensee within 90 days of establishing legal residence.

Neb. Rev. Stat. 44-4056(2). Somebody licensed as a producer in another state who moves to Nebraska has 90 days from establishing legal residence to apply as a resident licensee under 44-4053, written as a duty rather than an option. No examination is required for a line of authority previously held in the prior state except if the director determines otherwise by rule and regulation.

No national seller sells a course for this license. Aceable does not sell Nebraska at all. The Funeral paper is real, exam series 13-24 at sixty questions, and no seller carries a Nebraska funeral product. Nebraska examines this line where Kansas and Kentucky, which carry the same line, ask no examination of it at all, so there is no neighboring product to adapt.
