The Missouri Surety Recovery Agent license
Surety Recovery Agent
Tracks down and surrenders a defendant who has broken a bail bond agreement. Missouri licenses it, examines it, and asks the same twenty-four hours as the bail bond agents, while writing bail bond agents themselves out of the definition.

Initial basic training
-
24 hours of initial basic training for the bail bond and surety recovery profession, approved by the Department of Commerce and Insurance, and from 2026-08-28 by its division of professional registration under the board at s. 324.1102; neither the Department's page nor the act names the approving body in terms
and the examination
-
Pearson examines the family under the Missouri Insurance program: Bail Bonds Agent is exam series 23 and Surety Recovery Agent is series 57, each one hour at $25.
and age and schooling
-
Twenty-one years old, a United States citizen, and a high school diploma or GED certificate. Twenty-one is the highest minimum age on any Missouri insurance license, where every other one is eighteen.
and what the license is not
-
Section 324.2103(12) defines the surety recovery agent as somebody "not performing the duties of a sworn peace officer who tracks down, captures and surrenders to the custody of a court a fugitive who has violated a bail bond agreement, excluding a bail bond agent or general bail bond agent". Both exclusions are in the definition: a peace officer is out, and so is anybody already licensed on the bond side.
The Department's Other Licensees page sets out the qualification in five bullets and the fourth is "Completed an approved 24 hour initial basic training course". Pearson's Missouri candidate handbook prints the same twenty-four hours in the education column of its license table, against "None" for every producer line. The license runs two years at $150 and renews at $150, and Pearson examines it at series 57. The statutes moved house on 2026-08-28: the Professional Bail Bondsman and Surety Recovery Agent Licensure Act was transferred out of chapter 374 into sections 324.2100 to 324.2187 by S.B. 1421 of 2026. The Department of Commerce and Insurance still issues the license and its own insurance-side Other Licensees page still carries it, but 324.2103 defines the director as the director of the division of professional registration and puts the license under the board of private investigators, private fire investigators and professional surety bail bond agents at 324.1102.

A course is required and nobody sells one
No national seller sells a course for this license. Aceable does not sell Missouri at all. The same twenty-four hours and the same absence, on a license examined at series 57. Nobody sells preparation for recovering a defendant who has broken a bail bond.
