The Missouri Public Adjuster license
Public Adjuster
The only adjuster license Missouri issues, and its statute has not been touched since 1973. It is narrowed by line rather than by what the holder may do: section 325.010 confines it to fire and allied lines and writes casualty claims out of it in the same sentence, where Montana narrows its own by the act instead.

Every way to qualify
More than one route leads to this license, and which one you take changes what you study and whether you sit the exam. There is no pre-licensing course among them: this license is qualified for by sitting the examination or somebody else sponsoring you.
-
Route 1 Pass the public adjuster examination
State exam required
The examination
-
Pearson's Public Adjuster paper, exam series 20, one hour at $25.
and the bond
-
A corporate surety bond of $10,000, conditioned on a satisfactory accounting of any funds received in settlement of losses or claims for policyholders, plus a separate $1,000 corporate surety bond for each employee engaged as a public adjuster or solicitor. The surety may cancel on thirty days' notice to the director and is then off the hook for anything after the cancellation date.
and the five-year history
-
An application signed and verified under oath naming the applicant, the address where the adjusting business will be conducted, whether an adjuster's license has been issued to the applicant before, and the applicant's occupation or business for the five years preceding the application with the names and addresses of employers in that period.
Sections 325.015 and 325.020, RSMo. There is no course: Pearson's Missouri candidate handbook prints "None" in the education column beside the Public Adjuster row and the statute asks for the bond, the sworn application and the examination. Two things about it are unusual. 325.015 forbids the license from carrying any right "to engage in the practice of law or to conduct law business as defined in section 484.010", which is a prohibition inside the licensing section rather than in a conduct section. And 325.020.3 makes a partnership or corporate license name the individuals: "The license issued shall entitle only those persons named in the application to engage in the adjusting business."

Route 2 Be added to an existing licensee by supplemental application
State exam required
The licensee adding you
-
An existing public adjuster licensee files a supplemental application for somebody becoming associated with or employed by it, with the proper additional fee. The applicant does not apply on their own account.
and the examination
-
Pearson's Public Adjuster paper, series 20, is still sat: the supplemental application changes who files rather than what is required.
and the bond
-
The $1,000 corporate surety bond for each employee engaged as a public adjuster or solicitor.
Section 325.025.3, RSMo: "Supplemental applications may be made for others becoming associated with or employed by a licensee upon the payment of the proper additional fee or fees and the filing of a completed application."It is how a firm adds an adjuster without a fresh corporate license, and it is the reason 325.020.3 has to name individuals on the face of the license.
