The Missouri Crop license

Crop

Sells crop insurance to Missouri growers. The line has its own hour-long paper, and a producer certified by the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation on 28 September 1995 was written out of needing a property license for federal crop business and has stayed written out ever since.

Every way to qualify

More than one route leads to this license, and which one you take changes what you study and whether you sit the exam. There is no pre-licensing course among them: this license is qualified for by sitting the examination, a license held in another state or experience.

  1. Route 1 Pass the examination

    State exam required

    • Pearson's Crop Insurance paper, exam series 31, one hour at $25. It is one of the eight Missouri papers priced at $25 rather than $32 or $40.

Section 375.015.1, RSMo is the closed list of what the director must find before approving a resident producer application: at least eighteen years old, no act that is a ground for denial under 375.141, the hundred dollar fee paid, and the examinations passed for the lines applied for. No course is in it, which is where Missouri's zero is read, and Pearson's Missouri candidate handbook prints "None" in the education column beside every producer line. A Missouri exam score is valid for one year and a candidate waits one day before rebooking a failed paper.

  2. Route 2 Hold the line in your home state

    Exempt from the state exam

    • a resident producer license carrying the Crop line of authority, current and in good standing in the applicant's home state, where that state licenses Missouri residents on the same basis

Section 375.017.1, RSMo. A nonresident is licensed on the home state license plus the fee and the application, with no Missouri examination. 375.017.5 carries limited lines across the same way, granting the same scope of authority the home state granted. A Letter of Certification no older than six months is attached unless the home state is on the NAIC producer database participating state report.

  3. Route 3 Have been FCIC-certified on 28 September 1995

    Exempt from the state exam

    • Certification by the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation to write federal crop insurance, held on 28 September 1995. The date is fixed in the statute rather than rolling, so the route closes to anybody who was not certified on that day.

Section 375.018.2, RSMo: "Any insurance producer who is certified by the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation on September 28, 1995, to write federal crop insurance shall not be required to have a property license for the purpose of writing federal crop insurance."It is a grandfather clause with a single calendar date in it, thirty years old and never amended, and it removes the property license rather than the crop line. Nobody licensed after that day can use it.

No national seller sells a course for this license. Aceable does not sell Missouri at all. The Crop paper is real, exam series 31, and no seller carries a Missouri crop product. A.D. Banker sells a Nebraska crop package two states west and nothing for Missouri.
