Binds ceding reinsurance contracts for an insurer, or runs all or part of an insurer's book as its agent. Mississippi licenses it as a thing in its own right rather than as an indorsement on a producer license, and it cannot be renewed online: the Department takes this one on paper.

A letter of appointment from each insurance company named on the application, signed by an officer of the company or by somebody the company has authorized in a letter on file with the Department, setting out in full what functions the agent will perform for that insurer.
The Department's own definition: "any person, firm, association or corporation who negotiates and binds ceding reinsurance contracts on behalf of an insurer or manages all or part of the insurance business of an insurer and acts as an agent for such insurer whether known as a managing general agent, manager or other similar term."No examination and no pre-licensing course appear anywhere in the procedure. Privilege tax $100 for the individual license and $100 for the entity. Biennial, expiring on the last day of the birth month in the second year with a minimum term of 13 months, reinstatable within twelve months on the fee plus a fifty percent penalty. "This license is not available to be renewed on-line": the paper invoice has to be posted with the fee, which is true of only three Mississippi licenses, this one, the Risk Retention Agent and the Reinsurance Intermediary.
