Every way to qualify

More than one route leads to this license, and which one you take changes what you study and whether you sit the exam. There is no pre-licensing course among them: this license is qualified for by sitting the examination or moving here already licensed.

  1. Route 1 Pass the examination

    State exam required

Louisiana asks no pre-licensing course of an adjuster. The LDI's application page sets out what an applicant does, in three steps: contact PSI for the examination, file through NIPR, be fingerprinted. It is a complete enumeration rather than a silence, and the proof is that it carries the extra requirements where they exist: three months of apprenticeship for bail bonds, two years of licensure or professional experience for surplus lines, a separate qualifications page for title, and a $50,000 bond and an application-before-examination rule for public adjusters. A course would be on it. The LDI states it once for the whole family: all claims adjuster lines and public adjusters require an examination. This one is PSI series 206.

  2. Route 2 Move to Louisiana holding the same license elsewhere

    Exempt from the state exam

    • 90 days Transferring a resident license held in the previous state of residence, either still current or cancelled within the last ninety days, with the exemption requested from the LDI by email quoting the NIPR transaction number

The LDI grants this as an exemption from the examination requirement rather than as a separate license, and it has to be asked for: file the resident application, comply with fingerprinting, then email producerlicensing@ldi.la.gov with the NIPR transaction number. A letter of clearance may be required where the national licensing database cannot evidence the earlier license.

No national seller sells a course for this license. Louisiana examines six adjuster lines separately and the sellers who reach the state do not: WebCE names only Property & Casualty Adjuster, and Kaplan's and ExamFX's Louisiana adjuster products name no line at all. What is on the Property and Casualty Adjuster page is everything anybody sells into Louisiana for an adjuster.
