More than one route leads to this license, and which one you take changes what you study and whether you sit the exam. There is no pre-licensing course among them: this license is qualified for by sitting the examination or a license held in another state.

  1. Route 1 Pass the examination

    State exam required

    Louisiana asks no prelicensing course of a producer. Act 273 of 2022 repealed R.S. 22:1546(A)(4) and R.S. 22:1571 with effect from 2022-06-03, and what is left in R.S. 22:1546(A) is age, residency, character, fees and the examination. R.S. 22:1545(A) sets the examination and its pass mark of seventy percent.

  2. Route 2 Have held the same lines in another state

    Exempt from the state exam

    • Previously licensed for the same lines of authority in another state

    The Department's licensing guide says it without qualification: anyone applying for an insurance producer license who was previously licensed for the same lines of authority in another state is not required to complete any prelicensing education or take an examination. Both, not one.
