The Indiana Recovery Agent license
Recovery Agent
Retakes a defendant who has skipped bail, working for a licensed bail agent or a surety company. Indiana licenses it separately from the bail agent, on the same twelve-hour course and the same examination paper, and it is the only license here whose sponsorship is optional on the way in and required to renew.

Pre-licensing education
-
12 hours of bail and recovery agent pre-licensing education, filed on the Department's register under the Bail/Recovery course category, approved by the Department
and the examination
-
The IDOI Bail/Recovery Agent examination, booked through the Department's scheduling page with a $50 examination fee paid by card at the time of booking. Bail agents and recovery agents sit the same paper.
and fingerprints and a photograph
-
A certified fingerprint card from local law enforcement, which must be mailed rather than uploaded, or a receipt showing the applicant has been fingerprinted, together with a recent full-face digital photograph and signature on the Department's specimen sheet.
and sponsorship, optional now and required later
-
Form 3A, sponsorship by a licensed bail agent or an authorized surety company. The Department marks it optional on a recovery agent's initial application and asks for it on every renewal, and it has to be filed again whenever the sponsorship changes.
The Department runs the bail agent and the recovery agent through one process and one paper: the same twelve hours of Bail/Recovery pre-licensing education, the same $50 IDOI Bail/Recovery Agent examination, the same fingerprints and photograph. Pearson's Indiana handbook prints one content outline covering both, headed Bail Agent and Recovery Agent. What separates them is the money and the sponsorship: $300 to apply against the bail agent's $650, and a Form 3A the Department calls optional on the way in.

A course is required and nobody sells one
No national seller sells a course for this license, and nothing could reach the course. Indiana asks for twelve hours of Bail/Recovery pre-licensing education and every one of the five courses on its register is classroom delivery from an Indiana bail business or bail school, so a self-paced online product cannot satisfy it however many hours it claims. A.D. Banker lists twenty-one Indiana products and not one of them is a bail course.
