Every way to qualify

  1. Route 1 Apply as the vendor, filing the supervising entity's training syllabus

No state exam for this license

    • A sworn application on the director's form naming an employee or officer of the vendor responsible for compliance, and, where more than 50% of the vendor's revenue comes from selling this insurance, the same information for every officer, director and shareholder of record holding 10% or more; the home office street and mailing address and a daytime telephone number; and the syllabus for the training program developed by the supervising entity or the insurer that issued the policy

41-1083(1) requires the vendor to hold the limited lines license and 41-1083(2) then spreads it to "any employee or authorized representative of the vendor" at every location the vendor sells from, so nobody at a counter is licensed. 41-1083(3) puts the register of authorized locations on the supervising entity rather than on the Department, open to inspection on request. The Department's manual calls this "a Small Portable Electronics license or a Large Portable Electronics license", and the statute makes it one license with two fees: 41-1089(6) charges $1,000 to issue and $500 to renew, except that a vendor selling at ten or fewer Idaho locations pays no more than $100 either way. Two names on the Department's page, one license in the Code. 41-1089(4) is the provision worth reading twice, because it is a license that can expire by another state's inaction: an applicant whose home state issues no similar line is licensed here anyway, but a licensee whose home state still does not authorize a portable electronics limited line after 2014-07-01 "shall obtain a property and casualty license under title 41, Idaho Code, or its license shall terminate in Idaho". The line is open to business entities alone, resident and nonresident, which the Department says in terms and which is why no individual route appears here. Initial licenses run 24 months under 41-1089(5).

No national seller sells a course for this license. Nothing could: the line is open to business entities alone, no examination stands in front of it, and the training is the supervising entity's or the insurer's, filed with the application as a syllabus.
