The Hawaii Travel license

Travel

Travel insurance in Hawaii, sold under a limited lines travel insurance producer license held by an individual or a business entity. No examination and no course: the Division exempts limited license applicants from the paper, and the 2025 Travel Insurance Act adds a register of retailers rather than a second license.

    • At the time of licensure, a register on the commissioner's form of every travel retailer offering travel insurance on the licensee's behalf, giving each retailer's name, address, contact information, an officer or person who directs or controls its operations, and its federal tax identification number, kept up to date and produced to the Insurance Division on request

431:9A-107.5(a)(1) defines the line by seven kinds of cover, from interruption or cancellation of a trip to emergency evacuation and repatriation of remains, and closes it against major medical plans for trips over six months and against anything that needs a specific producer license of its own. 431:32-104(a), enacted by the Hawaii Travel Insurance Act in 2025, then routes the license back through 431:9A-107.5 and issues it to an individual or a business entity alike. 431:9A-107.5(a) is the whole of Hawaii's limited licensing power and it names three things and no others: travel, limited line credit insurance, and the owner of a self-service storage facility. The commissioner "may issue" each, the fee is the only precondition the section states at (c), and the Division answers the examination question on its own page: applicants for limited licenses are not required to pass one. 431:9A-107.5(d) is what stands in place of a qualification, and it is a standard of conduct rather than a test: a person issued a limited license "shall act in good faith, abstain from deception, and practice honesty and equity in all insurance matters". The travel retailer is registered rather than licensed and the register is kept by the licensee, which is why it gets no page here: Oregon's ORS 744.104 was read the same way on 2026-08-19. The Division's fee schedule prices this line and credit together at $150 to issue and $90 to renew.

No national seller sells a course for this license. Nothing here needs one: the Division exempts applicants for limited licenses from the examination, so there is no paper to prepare for and no course to satisfy.
