The Georgia Surplus Lines Broker license
Surplus Lines Broker
Places business with insurers Georgia has not admitted. It is the most expensive individual license the Office issues, at $600 and a $20 processing fee against $100 for everything else, and it sits on top of a property and casualty agent license rather than beside one.

Every way to qualify
More than one route leads to this license, and which one you take changes what you study and whether you sit the exam. There is no pre-licensing course among them: this license is qualified for by sitting the examination, a designation already held or moving here already licensed.
-
Route 1 Hold the P&C agent license, then pass the surplus lines paper
State exam required
The agent license underneath it
-
a Georgia resident agent license with Property and Casualty, held or applied for at the same time. Rule 120-2-3-.20(2) cancels the surplus lines broker license the moment that license lapses
and bond
-
A $50,000 bond in favor of the Commissioner on the Office's Surplus Lines Broker's Bond form, uploaded with the application. It runs continuously, it is released only five years after the license ends or on replacement by a bond covering the same period, and failing to maintain it cancels the license.
Exam code 50, one and a half hours at $67. There is no prelicensing course in rule 120-2-3-.20 and none on the Office's page. Two courses for this license sit on Georgia's approved-course register all the same, both from one Georgia provider, which is what a register that accepts filings for a license that requires none looks like.
