The Georgia Public Adjuster license
Public Adjuster
The other side of the same claim: an adjuster who works for insured individuals and may not represent an insurer. It takes the same 16-hour course as the adjuster, a paper of its own, a $5,000 bond, and a contract the Commissioner has to approve before the licensee may work with a consumer at all.

Every way to qualify
More than one route leads to this license, and which one you take changes what you study and whether you sit the exam. They are listed in full because the course is only the first of them.
-
Route 1 Take the 16-hour Property and Casualty public adjuster course
State exam required
Prelicensing course
-
16 hours of property and casualty public adjusting, eight hours for each of the two major lines, approved by the Department , completed within 1 year
and bond
-
A $5,000 bond in favor of the Commissioner on the Office's own form, filed with the application. It is continuous, it is released only five years after the license ends or on replacement by another bond covering the same period, and failing to maintain it cancels the license.
The paper is exam code 20, two hours. Rule 120-2-3-.25(2)(c) is the course and it is written in the same words as the adjuster's, so the same conflict runs through it. The hour count is the one thing in Georgia's adjuster licensing that two of the Commissioner's own rules disagree about. Rule 120-2-3-.08(1), amended effective 2025-06-24, reads "All agent and adjuster prelicensing courses must contain a minimum of eight (8) hours of instruction per major line of authority" and names Property and Casualty as two of the five major lines, which is the sixteen the Office's applicant page and its candidate handbook both print. Rule 120-2-3-.25(1)(d) still reads twenty hours per major line, which is forty for the same two lines, and it was itself amended effective 2025-07-01 without being conformed. The Office's approved-course register settles which figure is being applied: every Georgia adjuster course approved before the change carries 40 credits and every one approved since 2025-12-03 carries 16.

Route 2 Hold the CPCU
Exempt from the state exam
Designation
-
CPCU Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter, from The Institutes
and bond
-
The $5,000 bond in favor of the Commissioner, on every route.
Rule 120-2-3-.25(2)(c) exempts a CPCU holder from the examination and (2)(f)1 from the course. The Universal Claims Certification is on the adjuster's exemption list and not on this one: the Office's table gives the public adjuster "CPCU, BBA in insurance, PhD in insurance" where the adjuster's row above it reads "CPCU, UCC, BBA in insurance, PhD in insurance".

Route 3 Hold an insurance degree, or two college insurance courses
Exempt from the state exam
Degree or coursework
-
A degree in insurance. An official transcript is required
and bond
-
The $5,000 bond in favor of the Commissioner, on every route.
Rule 120-2-3-.25(2)(f) repeats the adjuster's five exceptions to the course word for word, and the Office's table again files the degrees under a heading that covers the examination too.

Route 4 Move to Georgia holding the same lines and apply within 90 days
Exempt from the state exam
Previous home state license
-
90 days Licensed for these same lines in the previous home state, with that license active at the time of the move, the original clearance letter from that state attached to the application, and the application filed within 90 days of the move. Rule 120-2-3-.09(1)(m) waives the course and the paper together.
and bond
-
The $5,000 bond in favor of the Commissioner, on every route.

A course is required and nobody sells one
No national seller sells a course for this license. Georgia's own approved-course register does hold public adjuster courses, two of them, and both belong to one Georgia provider: AccuAgents holds course 70945 at 40 credits by correspondence and course 73701 at 16 credits online. What the national sellers carry for Georgia is adjuster preparation, and the adjuster paper is a different paper from this one.
