The Georgia Limited Subagent license

Limited Subagent

Sells personal lines property and casualty, or personal life, accident and sickness, under a sponsoring agent who holds the license and hands it back when the relationship ends. It takes an eight-hour course and no examination, and the eight is new: the Office cut it from twenty in June 2025.

Every way to qualify

  1. Route 1 Take the 8-hour subagent course under a sponsoring agent

No state exam for this license

    Prelicensing course

    • 8 hours of the combination lines applied for, either life, accident and sickness or property and casualty, approved by the Department , completed within 1 year

    and the sponsoring agent

    • A resident agent licensed in Georgia agrees to appoint the applicant as a representative, affirms that an unaffiliated agency has investigated the applicant's general character with a criminal background check, and recommends them. The subagent may not hold a category the sponsoring agent does not hold, and the sponsoring agent physically retains the license and returns it to the Commissioner when the relationship ends.

Rule 120-2-3-.31(2)(d) asks for evidence of an approved limited subagent prelicensing course in the lines applied for, taken within twelve months of filing, and (3) says "No examination shall be required" in four words. Rule 120-2-3-.08(2) sets the length, and it was cut in the same June 2025 amendment that took the agent's major lines to eight: the Office's own notice of the change reads "120-2-3-.08(2) - Reduces the course requirement for Limited Subagents to 8.0 hours for the lines of life, accident and sickness or property and casualty". The Office's candidate handbook still describes it as "8 hours in qualification applying for", which agrees. The whole license dies with the sponsoring agent's: termination, cancellation or nonrenewal of that license cancels this one.

A course is required and nobody sells one

No national seller sells a course for this license, and the interesting part is that one of them could. ExamFX holds course 68364 on Georgia's approved-course register, named "20-Hour Prelicensing for LTD Subagent", active since 2024-01-11 and approved to 2028-01-31. It is the only approved Georgia subagent course held by a national seller and it is not on ExamFX's Georgia catalog, which sells Life, Health, Life and Health, Property and Casualty, Personal Lines and Variable Products and nothing else. An approved course is not the same thing as a course for sale.
