The Georgia Limited Health Counselor license

Limited Health Counselor

A counselor license limited to accident and sickness, with a paper of its own that runs one hour where every other Georgia paper runs one and a half or two. Five years as a health agent removes the paper entirely, which makes it the only Georgia license where experience is both the qualification and the exemption.

Every way to qualify

More than one route leads to this license, and which one you take changes what you study and whether you sit the exam. There is no pre-licensing course among them: this license is qualified for by sitting the examination, experience, a designation already held or moving here already licensed.

  1. Route 1 Pass the limited health counselor paper

    State exam required

    • A $5,000 bond in favor of the Commissioner on the Office's counselor bond form, uploaded with the application. It runs continuously, it is released only five years after the license ends or on replacement by a bond covering the same period, and failing to maintain it cancels the license.

    Exam code 42, one hour at $67, and rule 120-2-3-.46(4) gives the applicant twelve months from passing to apply. Unlike the two full counselor licenses this one carries no experience requirement of its own: rule 120-2-3-.46 asks for the application, the fingerprints, the bond and the paper, and nothing else.

  2. Route 2 Five years licensed as an accident and sickness agent

    • 5 years Five years licensed as an agent in the line of accident and sickness, which rule 120-2-3-.46(4)(a) makes an exemption from the examination rather than a qualification for it.

    Rule 120-2-3-.09(1)(d) says the same thing from the examination side. On the two full counselor licenses five years' experience is what qualifies an applicant to sit the paper; here it is what removes it.

  4. Route 4 Hold the counselor license in another state

No national seller names this license. A.D. Banker does sell a Georgia Health Consultant/Counselor package, and it is not claimed here: nothing on its page or in its product name identifies it with exam code 42 rather than with the accident and sickness half of exam code 40, and the two are different papers of different lengths. It sits on the Life, Accident and Sickness Counselor page, which is where its name points.
