The Georgia Adjuster license
Adjuster
Adjusts property and casualty claims for an insurer or an adjusting firm. Rule 120-2-3-.06(3)(a)1 fences it in one sentence: an adjuster may not represent an insured individual. It is the first of four adjuster licenses Georgia issues and the only one with both a course and a paper.

Every way to qualify
More than one route leads to this license, and which one you take changes what you study and whether you sit the exam. They are listed in full because the course is only the first of them.
-
Route 1 Take the 16-hour Property and Casualty adjuster course
State exam required
-
16 hours of property and casualty adjusting, eight hours for each of the two major lines, approved by the Department , completed within 1 year
The Office asks for "16 hours Property and Casualty adjuster courses (8.0 hours per major line)" and takes the completion electronically from the education provider: "Paper course completion forms are not accepted as proof of completion."The paper is exam code 24, two hours, and the same sentence applies to it. Rule 120-2-3-.25(1)(d) gives the applicant twelve months from finishing the course to pass the paper and twelve months from passing to apply. The hour count is the one thing in Georgia's adjuster licensing that two of the Commissioner's own rules disagree about. Rule 120-2-3-.08(1), amended effective 2025-06-24, reads "All agent and adjuster prelicensing courses must contain a minimum of eight (8) hours of instruction per major line of authority" and names Property and Casualty as two of the five major lines, which is the sixteen the Office's applicant page and its candidate handbook both print. Rule 120-2-3-.25(1)(d) still reads twenty hours per major line, which is forty for the same two lines, and it was itself amended effective 2025-07-01 without being conformed. The Office's approved-course register settles which figure is being applied: every Georgia adjuster course approved before the change carries 40 credits and every one approved since 2025-12-03 carries 16.

Route 2 Hold the CPCU or a Universal Claims Certification
Exempt from the state exam
-
CPCU Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter, from The Institutes
- or
The Universal Claims Certification (UCC), evidenced on the application. Neither the Commissioner's rule nor the Office's page names the body that awards it, and the Office's continuing education chart exempts a UCC holder from every hour of continuing education an adjuster otherwise owes.
The Office's own table heads this column "Exemptions from Education and Exam Requirements" and lists CPCU and UCC under it, so both the course and the paper go. Rule 120-2-3-.25(1)(f)1 names the CPCU as an exception to the course and 120-2-3-.25(1)(d) names it again as an exception to the examination; the UCC appears only in the Office's table and its continuing education chart.

Route 3 Hold an insurance degree, or two college insurance courses
Exempt from the state exam
-
A degree in insurance. An official transcript is required
Rule 120-2-3-.25(1)(f) gives five exceptions to the course and two of them are academic: a transcript showing two college or university courses related to the lines applied for, and a college degree in insurance. The Office's table carries the degrees only, as "BBA in insurance, PhD in insurance", and files them in the column it heads "Exemptions from Education and Exam Requirements". Rule 120-2-3-.09(1)(g) separately excuses the examination for an applicant holding a Ph.D. in Risk Management, which is a narrower thing than a Ph.D. in insurance and is the only degree the examination rule names.

Route 4 Move to Georgia holding the same lines and apply within 90 days
Exempt from the state exam
-
90 days Licensed for these same lines in the previous home state, with that license active at the time of the move, the original clearance letter from that state attached to the application, and the application filed within 90 days of the move. Rule 120-2-3-.09(1)(m) waives the prelicensing education and the examination together on this route.
Georgia also licenses a nonresident adjuster who has no home state to come from. The Office calls it a Non-resident Adjuster DHS and it is the designated home state shape this site has met in ten states, except that Georgia gives it no relief: "you must take the Georgia Adjuster Pre-licensing course and pass the examination to qualify as well as complete fingerprinting for background reports."A nonresident whose home state does license adjusters pays $120 and takes nothing.
