A certificate of registration for the employee of a title insurer, underwritten title company or controlled escrow company whose primary duty is to market, offer, solicit, negotiate or sell title insurance. Nobody may be employed in that job in California without one.

    • Employment by a title insurer, an underwritten title company or a controlled escrow company, which section 12418(b) makes part of the definition

    California Insurance Code section 12418(a) is a prohibition on being employed rather than on acting: "No person shall be employed as a title marketing representative in this state unless the person holds a valid 'certificate of registration' as a title marketing representative issued by the commissioner pursuant to Section 12418.1."Subsection (b) defines the role by its primary duty, marketing, offering, soliciting, negotiating or selling title insurance for one of three kinds of employer. The Department records prelicensing experience or education, the examination and continuing education all as Not required and the application as Required. $261 to file and $276 to renew, which is the only California license whose renewal costs more than its filing.
