The California Crop Insurance Adjuster license

Crop Insurance Adjuster

Investigates, negotiates or settles crop insurance claims. It is the insurance adjuster license with the examination taken out and a federal training curriculum put in its place, which is the clearest statement of that trade on this site: the Commissioner must issue it to anybody who meets both halves.

Every way to qualify

  1. Route 1 Hold the adjuster license and complete the federal curriculum

No state exam for this license

The adjuster license, minus its paper

    • a California insurance adjuster license, obtained without the examination California Insurance Code section 14026 otherwise allows the Commissioner to require

    and federal loss adjustment training

    • A pre-licensing course in the loss adjustment training curriculum and competency testing required by the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation Standard Reinsurance Agreement

California Insurance Code section 14085(a) is drafted as a duty on the regulator rather than a discretion: "upon application, the commissioner shall issue a crop insurance adjuster license to a person who meets both of the following requirements". The first is an insurance adjuster license "with the exception of the examination requirement of Section 14026", so the two years of adjusting experience still apply and the paper does not. The second is evidence of having satisfactorily completed the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation's loss adjustment training curriculum and competency testing under the Standard Reinsurance Agreement. Eight states here hang a license on a federal crop training program and hardly any two describe it the same way: Washington calls it pre-licensing education, Hawaii takes a card in place of its own paper, Wyoming calls it a bypass, Maine leaves it unnamed, and California calls it a curriculum with competency testing. The fee is $311, the same as the adjuster license it sits on.

A course is required and nobody sells one

The training is the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation's, given under its Standard Reinsurance Agreement to the people adjusting under it, and no national seller offers it. California sets no course of its own for this license and gives no examination for it.
