Every way to qualify

More than one route leads to this license, and which one you take changes what you study and whether you sit the exam. There is no pre-licensing course among them: this license is qualified for by sitting the examination or a license held in another state.

  1. Route 1 Pass the title agent examination and be appointed first

    State exam required

    Wyoming residence

    • Residence in Wyoming and age 18 or over; the Department writes this route as open to Wyoming residents only

and the appointment, before the license issues

    • An Appointment/Termination Form completed by the underwriting company and a $15 appointment check sent to the Department; title agent licenses must have an appointment prior to being issued

    and fingerprints, after the application

    • A fingerprint background check, for which the Department mails a packet after the application is received

The sequence is what makes this license different from the others in the state: the Department says twice that a title agent license "must have an appointment prior to being issued", where every other Wyoming license is issued first and appointed afterwards. The paper is the Wyoming Title Agent Licensing Exam through Pearson VUE and no course is required for it. The study material the Department names for this license is not from an insurance school at all: the American Land Title Association and the Wyoming Land Title Association, listed under the same disclaimer it uses everywhere, that it "does not endorse any providers for pre-licensing education" and lists them for information only.

  2. Route 2 Come from one of the few states Wyoming has an agreement with

    Exempt from the state exam

    • a title agent license in a state that reciprocates title agent licensing with Wyoming, of which the Department says there are "a very limited number"

The Department does not publish the list and warns that it is short. That is worth saying plainly on the page rather than implying a general reciprocity: title is the one Wyoming line where holding the license elsewhere is usually not enough.

No national seller sells a course for this license, though Wyoming does examine for it. The two providers the Department names for title study material are the American Land Title Association and the Wyoming Land Title Association, neither of which is an insurance school and neither of which is surveyed here.
