    State exam required

A paper application, and a check

    • A Uniform Application for Producer License submitted on paper, with a check to the Wyoming State Treasurer for $100 as a resident or $150 as a nonresident, mailed to the Department; consultant applications are not taken online

    and fingerprints, after the application

    • A fingerprint background check, for which the Department mails a fingerprinting packet after the application has been received rather than before

Chapter 18 of the Wyoming Insurance Regulations defines a consultant as anybody who, for a fee, offers advice, counsel, opinion or service about insurance needs, risks, benefits, coverages or policy provisions, or about any formal plan of managing pure risk, and is not compensated by an insurer or an insurance producer for the advice given. W.S. 26-9-220 then bars holding oneself out to the public as an insurance consultant for hire without the license. The Wyoming Insurance Consultant Licensing Exam is sat through Pearson VUE for the lines applied for, and one of those lines is the public adjuster, which the Department says in terms is "included under the consultant license in Wyoming". No course, and no experience bar: Oregon asks a consultant for five years under ORS 744.619(1) and Maine for five under 24-A M.R.S. 1410(5), where Wyoming asks for the paper and nothing more. Renewal is on the last day of the licensee's birth month two years after approval, then every two years, at $100 for residents and $150 for nonresidents.
