The Wisconsin Variable Life and Variable Annuity license
Variable Life and Variable Annuity
Sells insurance written under variable life contracts and variable annuities in Wisconsin. It is one of the six major lines the Office names and the only one of them with no examination and no pre-licensing course: what stands in for both is a life license and a securities registration.

This license has no pre-licensing course route.

Every way to qualify
More than one route leads to this license, and which one you take changes what you study and whether you sit the exam. There is no pre-licensing course among them: this license is qualified for by a license already held or a license held in another state.
-
Route 1 Hold the life line and register with FINRA
No state exam for this license
The life license underneath it
-
an active Wisconsin intermediary license carrying the Life line of authority
and the securities registration
-
Proof of FINRA registration for the Securities Industry Essentials examination and for either the Series 6 or the Series 7, and a Central Registration Depository number. The Office asks for the SIE as well as the series examination, which most states that reach for FINRA do not.
The Office lists this among the six major lines of authority and then takes both of the things the other five ask for off it: its examination requirements page puts Variable Life and Variable Annuity on the list of lines that do not require an exam, and s. Ins 26.04(2) exempts it from the twenty hours of pre-licensing education. The examination vendor's Wisconsin bulletin agrees from the other side, listing nine papers and no variable one. Fingerprinting is not required for this line of authority either, which the Office states in as many words and which is unusual: it is required for every other major line.

Route 2 Hold the variable line in a home state
No state exam for this license
-
a variable line of authority held in the applicant's resident or designated home state
The Office's own sentence is the whole of the route, and it carries a second fact worth knowing: "Nonresident agents do not need a life insurance license unless the agents would like to sell life or annuity non-variable insurance products."So the life line that a resident must hold underneath this one is not asked of a nonresident at all.

No national seller sells a course for this license. The Wisconsin products sellers do carry are all for a major producer line or for the adjuster paper; Aceable sells nothing in Wisconsin at all. Wisconsin gives no variable paper and requires no course for the line. What it asks for instead is a FINRA registration, which is a securities examination nobody on this site sells preparation for.
