The Wisconsin Life Settlement Broker license
Life Settlement Broker
Negotiates the sale of a life policy for the person who owns it. It carries the most expensive license fee in Wisconsin, a million dollars of professional liability cover, and eight hours of training before the application, which is one of only four course requirements the state has.

Route 1 Eight hours of training, then apply
No state exam for this license
The initial training
-
8 hours of life settlements, in a course the commissioner approves, confirmed electronically with the application
and professional liability cover
-
An original endorsement from a licensed insurer showing professional liability insurance held by the applicant of not less than $1,000,000 in total annual aggregate for all claims during the policy period.
and the application
-
A list of the licensed providers the broker will represent, with names and addresses, an antifraud plan, and a showing that the applicant is competent and trustworthy, has a good business reputation and has the experience, training or education to be qualified for the business.
s. 632.69(2)(g)7 makes the training a condition of the license and 632.69(3)(e) sets it: "An individual applicant for a license under sub. (2) shall complete an initial training course of not less than 8 hours... A licensee shall complete training of not less than 4 hours every 24 months after the initial training course."The Office states the same requirement annually rather than biennially, two hours within each renewal period, which is the same rate written to the yearly cycle its license runs on. There is no examination: the vendor's nine Wisconsin papers include none for life settlements. 632.69(2)(a)2 exempts an attorney or a certified public accountant retained to represent the owner and not paid by the provider or purchaser. The license is not classified as resident or nonresident and a nonresident needs no reciprocal license at home, which is unusual.

A course is required and nobody sells one
No national seller sells a course for this license. The Wisconsin products sellers do carry are all for a major producer line or for the adjuster paper; Aceable sells nothing in Wisconsin at all. The eight hours are approved by the commissioner one course at a time and no register of approved courses is published, so there is nothing a national seller could be listed on.
