    • a Vermont insurance producer license, for a managing general agent acting for an insurer in Vermont

    • or

      a producer or broker license in the managing general agent's own state, for one acting from outside Vermont

    8 V.S.A. section 4800 is the licensing gate and it opens by naming the managing general agent in the same breath as the producer, the surplus lines broker, the reinsurance intermediary, the consultant, the limited lines producer, the adjuster, the public adjuster and the appraiser: the Commissioner may not issue, continue or permit to continue any of those licenses except in compliance with the section. Application is on the Commissioner's form under 4800(1), and 4800(2)(A)(ix) prices the initial 24-month license and the biennial renewal at $300, on top of the $30 that accompanies every application under 4800(2)(A). Chapter 131 subchapter 2 regulates the managing general agent alongside reinsurance intermediaries and producer-controlled insurers, and section 4817 is its licensure provision. There is no prelicensing course and no hour count anywhere in it, and no separate examination: what the license rests on is the producer or broker license underneath it. 4800(2)(B) makes the license terminate on a failure to pay.
