The Texas Adjuster: Property and Casualty license
Adjuster: Property and Casualty
Adjusts Texas property and casualty losses, narrower than the all lines adjuster license. It carries the same course route: a TDI-approved course in adjusting losses, passed under proctor, takes the place of the state examination.

-
Route 1 Complete a TDI-approved course in adjusting losses
Exempt from the state exam
-
A pre-licensing course in adjusting losses, prescribed and approved by the commissioner, ending in an examination on the course sat in a controlled, supervised and proctored testing environment, approved by the Department , completed within 1 year
Tex. Ins. Code 4101.056(a)(4) excuses the applicant from the state examination on proof of a course in adjusting losses "as prescribed and approved by the commissioner", passed under examination. Subsection (b) requires that examination to be scheduled by the applicant and sat "in a testing environment that is controlled, supervised, and proctored by a disinterested third party approved by the commissioner", and (c) defines disinterested as neither a relative within the third degree nor an employee or subordinate. TDI adds a freshness the statute does not: the course must have been completed within the last 12 months, and TDI points at Sircon for the approved list. No hour count is set anywhere in the statute or on TDI's page, so none is recorded here; every one of the 77 courses in Texas's own pre-licensing register runs 40 credits, which is the approval standard rather than a figure the applicant is told to meet.

Route 2 Hold the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter or Associate in Claims designation
Exempt from the state exam
-
CPCU Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter, from The Institutes
- or
AIC Associate in Claims, from The Institutes
Either designation is enough on its own. Both come from The Institutes, and the statute at 4101.056(a) does not carry them: this waiver is TDI's rather than the legislature's.

Route 3 Hold the same license in a reciprocal state
Exempt from the state exam
-
a adjuster: property and casualty license in good standing in a reciprocal state
TDI's page waives the examination for a non-resident who holds the license in good standing in a reciprocal state. It is a waiver of the examination and not of the application: the fee, the fingerprints and the Sircon filing all stand.

Route 4 Reinstate a license that expired between 90 days and a year ago
Exempt from the state exam
-
a Texas adjuster: property and casualty license that expired more than 90 days and less than one year ago
TDI lists an expired license among the reasons no examination is needed, and it is bounded at both ends: inside the first 90 days the renewal process is used instead, and after a year the examination comes back. So this route begins where renewal stops. Reinstating costs a $25 late fee on top of the $50 application fee, and the Sircon application is filed under "New Adjuster License".

Route 5 Have been adjusting losses on 27 August 1973
Exempt from the state exam
-
3 months Principally engaged in adjusting losses on 27 August 1973 and for the 90 days immediately before it
Tex. Ins. Code 4101.056(a)(1) and (2). A door that closed on a date and stayed in the statute: the oldest still standing on this site after Montana's 1961. It is recorded because the statutory list of examination waivers is narrower than TDI's page and this is the limb the page leaves out.

Route 6 Pass the examination
State exam required
Pearson VUE administers it, it has to be passed before the application, and the application has to reach TDI within a year of the pass or it is sat again.
