More than one route leads to this license, and which one you take changes what you study and whether you sit the exam. There is no pre-licensing course among them: this license is qualified for by sitting the examination or a license held in another state.

Route 1 Pass the adjuster examination
State exam required
S.C. Code 38-48-20 says it outright: the written examination for a public adjuster license shall be the same as that prescribed for insurance adjusters. The rest of the section is the same competence test the adjuster license carries, good moral character, sufficient knowledge of the insurance business and of the duties of a public adjuster, no violation of the insurance laws, and fit and proper. No course anywhere in chapter 48.

Exempt from the state exam

a public adjuster license in a home state that requires an adjuster examination, or a certificate from another state where the applicant is licensed and has passed one
S.C. Code 38-48-40 authorizes the reciprocal agreements and the Department applies them the same way it does for adjusters, including the limb that accepts a certificate from any state where the applicant passed an adjuster examination when the home state runs none.
