The Rhode Island Travel license
Travel
Sells travel insurance in Rhode Island under the Travel Insurance Act. The license is held by the business, the retail staff who offer it are registered rather than licensed, and any producer already holding a major line may sell travel insurance without it.

How to qualify
Rhode Island asks neither a prelicensing course nor an examination for this license, and that was read at the Department rather than left blank here: there is no route to show because there is nothing to qualify.
27-79.1-4(a) lets the commissioner issue a limited lines travel insurance producer license to an individual or a business entity on an application, and the fee regulation prices it among the business entity licenses at $120 for a resident and $130 for a non-resident. Nothing in the section is an examination and nothing in it is a course. What the section does carry is a list of duties that fall on the licensee once licensed rather than on the applicant before: keep a register of every travel retailer selling on your behalf, name a designated responsible producer who is a licensed individual producer, put the officers through the fingerprinting that applies to producers in your resident state, and give every retail employee who offers travel insurance a program of instruction covering the types of insurance, ethical sales practices and the required disclosures, which the commissioner may review and approve. That last one is the employer duty shape this site has now met in Texas, Delaware, Iowa, Michigan and here. 27-79.1-4(e) then makes the license optional for most people who would want it: anyone licensed in a major line of authority may already sell, solicit and negotiate travel insurance, and a property and casualty producer needs no appointment to do it. No national seller offers a product against this license.
