The Ohio Third Party Administrator license

Third Party Administrator

    • The Department's third party administrator application, filed electronically through NIPR or on paper, with the supporting documentation the Corporate License Section asks for.

Ohio Revised Code Chapter 3959 and O.A.C. 3901-8-05. The definition is wide and its exclusions are the useful part: an agent whose work is limited to selling insurance and who provides no administrative services is not an administrator, nor is anybody running a self-insuring employer's workers' compensation program, nor a person administering pension plans, nor a person administering a plan that benefits only their own members or employees, nor a health insuring corporation or an authorized insurer. Ohio licenses both individuals and business entities here and publishes separate application forms for each. The license expires annually on 30 June, costs $200 to get and $300 to renew, which is the largest gap on Ohio's fee chart between an application and its own renewal. No examination and no course.

Ohio sets no examination and no course for the third party administrator. No national seller prices a product for it.
