The Ohio Registered Viatical Settlement Life Agent license
Registered Viatical Settlement Life Agent
A way for a long-standing life agent to broker viatical settlements without holding the broker license. It costs nothing, it is granted on five years of standing rather than on any course, and it lapses every 31 March unless it is filed again.

Life line of authority
-
5 years an Ohio resident or nonresident insurance agent license with a life line of authority, in good standing, held for at least five years
and incidental activity
-
Viatical settlement broker activities that are incidental to the agent's insurance business, as Ohio Administrative Code 3901-9-02 defines incidental.
The Department's own description: an individual agent of five years' standing "may operate as a viatical settlement broker without obtaining a license pursuant ORC 3916 if the viatical settlement broker activities of the insurance agent are incidental to the insurance agent's insurance business activities as defined in Ohio Administrative Rule 3901-9-02", and must register with the Department to qualify. The registration expires automatically on 31 March each year unless a new one is submitted, so it is filed annually rather than renewed. The Department publishes the list of who holds it. This is not a shortcut into the trade: it is only open to somebody who has already held a life line for five years, and it stops being available the moment the viatical work stops being incidental.

The qualification is five years of holding a license Ohio has already issued, so there is no course to sell. No national seller prices a product for it.
