Has binding authority over a reinsurer's business, which is why North Dakota asks it for two things the broker license does not: a $2,000 bond and $50,000 of errors and omissions cover. Same statute, same application forms, same absence of any renewal.

  1. Route 1 Hold a North Dakota producer license and apply

    No state exam for this license

    Producer license

    • a North Dakota insurance producer license, required for a manager acting for a reinsurer domiciled here or keeping an office here

    • or

      a producer license in another state with a substantially similar law, where the manager acts in that state for a nondomestic insurer

    and bond

    • A $2,000 bond filed with the Department. A nonresident that already has a bond on file with another state as a condition of its manager license there is not required to post one here.

    and errors and omissions cover

    • Evidence of an errors and omissions policy of $50,000 filed with the Department. A nonresident maintaining such a policy on file with another state may submit evidence of that policy instead.

    N.D.C.C. 26.1-31.1-02(2) sets out the three situations in which a manager needs a North Dakota producer license, and 26.1-31.1-02(3) leaves the bond and the errors and omissions policy to the commissioner's discretion, in amounts acceptable to the commissioner. The Department has fixed both, at $2,000 and $50,000, on its reinsurance intermediary page, and the figures are the whole difference between this license and the broker's. There is no examination and no course, and no renewal. A North Dakota attorney at law acting professionally is exempt under 26.1-31.1-02(6).
