The North Dakota Portable Electronics Insurance license

Portable Electronics Insurance

Lets a vendor of phones and other portable electronic devices sell cover on them to the customers it sells or leases those devices to. The license is the vendor's and it carries the vendor's staff: employees and authorized representatives sell under it without licenses of their own, at every location the vendor trades from.

  1. Route 1 Apply as a vendor

No state exam for this license

    • An employee or officer of the vendor, named to the commissioner, who is responsible for the vendor's compliance with chapter 26.1-26.7. Where the vendor draws more than half its revenue from selling portable electronics insurance, the same information is required for every officer, director and ten percent shareholder instead.

N.D.C.C. 26.1-26.7-02(1) makes it a limited lines license the vendor must hold, and 26.1-26.7-06 sets out the application and the substitution of one named responsible person for the usual list of owners. No examination and no course: 26.1-26.7-06(1) sends the vendor to 26.1-26-13.3(2), and 26.1-26.7-02(6) exempts the vendor and its people from continuing education as well. The Code says the fee is "a fee as prescribed by the commissioner" and does not name it; the Department's own portable electronics page prices the application as an insurance producer license at $100 and describes the biennial renewal at $25, which is where the figure on this page comes from.

There is no examination and no course, and PSI's index of ten North Dakota papers has nothing for portable electronics. No national seller prices a North Dakota product for it.
