a securities license registered with the North Carolina Secretary of State, which the Department verifies using FINRA BrokerCheck
No pre-licensing course. S.L. 2025-45, s. 1(a) rewrote G.S. 58-33-30(d) with effect from 2025-10-01 so that the Commissioner may not require any hours of pre-licensing education of anybody. The Department's requirements chart answers "No" in the examination column and then sets two conditions instead: the applicant must hold the Life line of authority and demonstrate that their securities licenses are registered with the North Carolina Secretary of State, which the Department checks itself through FINRA BrokerCheck. Fifteen states on this site build their variable line on a FINRA pass and hardly any two do it the same way; North Carolina is the only one that routes it through a Secretary of State registration.

No national seller sells a course for this license. There is no North Carolina examination to prepare for: the license stacks on the Life line and on a securities registration, and the securities examinations are FINRA's rather than the state's.
