    • A New York authorized insurer files the written application in the superintendent's prescribed form and certifies that the person named is qualified by experience and training to adjust claims arising under contracts it issues. The adjuster does not apply.

Insurance Law 2108(n). It exists for widespread property losses out of a conflagration or catastrophe common to all of them, and residents and non-residents alike may hold it. The term is 120 days and the superintendent may renew it for as long as the claims take. The Department adds three limits its own page states and the statute does not: one permit covers one declared catastrophe, so a second catastrophe means a second application; one permit covers one company, so an adjuster working for two insurers needs two; and it is the sponsoring insurer that renews. There is no fee. Before it can apply, an insurer has to have an account set up with the Department by naming the officers or managing agents authorized to request permits, with a four-digit PIN of its own choosing.

The permit turns on an insurer's certification of experience and training the applicant already has, so there is no course or examination for a school to sell against. No national seller prices a product for it.
