    Qualification to sell

    • A finding by the superintendent that the applicant is qualified to solicit or sell self-service storage insurance. Licensing procedure is Article 11 of the Insurance Code, the same one that governs producers.

    • A complete list of every location where the producer will offer self-service storage insurance, given to the superintendent before offering it at any of them.

    NMSA 59A-62-3, under the Self-Service Storage Insurance License Act, effective 1 July 2019. The license authorizes the owner's employees and authorized representatives to sell at any facility the owner runs, and 59A-62-6(C) says they are not themselves subject to licensure. Subsection E is the exemption worth knowing: an owner who does no more than display and make available the insurer's brochures and promotional material, and whose unlicensed staff neither sell nor solicit nor offer, needs no license at all. 59A-62-8 requires a training program for the employees who do sell, developed by the supervising entity and approved by the superintendent, and delivered before they start; it is a condition on the staff rather than on the license, which is why it is not recorded as a route requirement here. 59A-62-7 forbids paying staff mainly by how many occupants buy.

New Mexico sets no examination and no course for the licensee. The training the Act requires is the supervising entity's, given to the owner's own staff, and no school is approved to sell it. No national seller prices a product for this license.
