Temporary Insurance Producer
Keeps a Montana insurance book running when the producer cannot. It is issued on age, residence and trustworthiness alone, with no examination, and the death of a producer is the one case where it can run for fifteen months instead of ninety days.

Who may hold it

The surviving spouse, next of kin, administrator or executor of a licensed producer who has died, or an employee of that administrator or executor; the spouse, next of kin, employee or legal guardian of a producer disabled by injury or physical or mental illness; an employee of a licensed partnership or an officer or employee of a licensed corporation, where the individual designated to exercise the powers has died or become disabled; the designee of a producer entering active service in the armed forces; or anybody at all where the commissioner finds the public interest is best served by issuing one.

Qualified as to age, residence and trustworthiness only, and without taking an examination. The application goes to the commissioner in the form and with the information the commissioner reasonably requires.
33-17-216(1) is the closed list of five and 33-17-216(3) the term: ninety days, extendable at the commissioner's discretion for ninety more. The exception is the first case on the list, where a temporary license issued on a producer's death may be continued until the executor or administrator disposes of the insurance business, up to fifteen months, and where a license issued to the next of kin may not be extended once an administrator or executor has been appointed and qualified. 33-17-217 sets the limitations and rights under the license.
