A completed application in the form and manner the commissioner approves, and the fee at 33-2-708: $50 to apply and $100 to renew biennially, with a $200 lapsed reinstatement fee.
33-2-305 asks for no examination and no course, only the property and casualty producer license already held. Three subsections are worth knowing because each of them keeps somebody out of this license's scope rather than in it. 33-2-305(7) says the section may not be read to require a license of agents, producers or brokers acting as intermediaries between a surplus lines producer and an unauthorized insurer. 33-2-305(8) says it may not be read to require one for independently procured insurance. And 33-2-305(1) turns the whole thing on the insured's home state rather than on where the producer is: the license is needed where Montana is the home state of the insured. A nonresident applies under 33-17-401 instead.
