No state exam for this license

    • Having authority to bind, or managing all or part of, the assumed reinsurance business of a reinsurer, including a separate division, department or underwriting office, and acting as agent for that reinsurer

MCL 500.1151(e). No pre-licensing course and no examination; Michigan sets no reinsurance intermediary paper. What the subsection spends its length on is who is NOT a manager, and the four exclusions are worth reading because each describes somebody who does the work and is regulated elsewhere: an employee of the reinsurer; the United States manager of the United States branch of an alien reinsurer; an underwriting manager who manages all the reinsurer's reinsurance operations under contract, is under common control with it, is subject to chapter 13, and whose compensation is not based on premium volume; and the manager of a group, association, pool or organization of insurers engaged in joint underwriting or joint reinsurance who is examined by the commissioner where that manager's principal office sits.

No national seller sells a course for this license. There is no examination and no course: MCL 500.1151(e) defines the license by the authority to bind or manage a reinsurer's assumed business, and Michigan's examination table lists no reinsurance paper.
