The Michigan Insurance Adjuster license

DIFS states the qualifications as a closed list and no course is in it: a reasonable understanding of the provisions, terms and conditions of the insurance to be adjusted, a reasonable understanding of Michigan's insurance laws, an intention to act in good faith, a good business reputation and good moral character. Michigan requires a pre-licensing education program of its producers and MCL 500.1204(2) forbids examining anybody who has not completed a registered one, which makes this the one state on this site where the register decides whether a course counts rather than what may be said about it. It does not reach this license. DIFS answers it in a sentence on its own pre-licensing exclusions page: "Candidates are not required to complete PE if they are obtaining a license for Limited Lines P & C, Title, Adjuster, Counselor, or Surplus Lines."Three lines of authority are available, fire and other hazards, workers' compensation, and crop, and the state examines them two ways rather than three: its own cut score table lists an Independent Adjuster WITH Workers' Compensation Authority paper and an Independent Adjuster WITHOUT one, both a hundred items at seventy percent. The examination has a clock on it, and it is the application's rather than the score's: fail to pass within six months of the application entering the database and a new application and fee are required before rescheduling. A non-resident is licensed at home for every line asked for here, and takes the Michigan paper only where the home state required no examination at licensure and no equivalent can be shown.

DIFS points at Bulletin 2010-05-INS for the requirements to obtain a license WITHOUT an examination for applicants holding an MPCI or FCIC certificate, and it reaches the crop line, which the Department describes as including multi-peril crop insurance as administered by the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation. It is the same shape Kentucky and Tennessee use for their crop adjusters and Delaware uses for its whole crop line: a federal certificate standing in for a state paper. No course either way.
