The Michigan Credit license

Credit

Michigan's limited line credit insurance qualification, sold with a loan or a purchase rather than on its own. It has no registered program of study and the commissioner may waive the examination for it, because the statute treats a limited license differently from a full one.

MCL 500.1206(1)(g) is the line, written in four words: "credit - limited line credit insurance". MCL 500.1201(j) defines the limited line credit insurance producer as a person who sells, solicits or negotiates one or more forms of limited line credit insurance coverage to individuals through a master, corporate, group or individual policy. MCL 500.1204(1) requires the written examination of a resident individual applying for a producer license, and 1204(2)(a) is the door out of it: the commissioner may waive the applicable examination or program of study requirements for a person who "applies for a limited license as designated by the commissioner". Whether the waiver is given is the commissioner's, so the examination is shown here as required, which is what an applicant should plan for. What is not discretionary is the absence of a course: MCL 500.1204a(1)(b) registers a program of study for health, life, life and health, property, casualty, personal lines and property and casualty, and registers none for credit.

The Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services requires no pre-licensing course for this license, so there is nothing here to price. Anyone selling you one is selling exam practice.
