Negotiates the sale of a life policy for the person who owns it. Maryland stacks it on a life producer license and then registers it after the fact: the broker has thirty days from the first contract negotiated, so the paperwork follows the work.

    No state exam for this license

    The producer license underneath it

    • an active Maryland producer license carrying the Life line of authority. A business entity broker must itself be a licensed producer with the Life line, and must name an individual as its principal contact with the Administration who holds the Life line and is registered as a broker

    and the registration

    • Registration with the Commissioner not later than 30 days after negotiating a viatical settlement contract on behalf of a viator, with the $250 fee. No examination and no course.

    Md. Code, Insurance 8-603(b): only an individual who is a viatical settlement broker may negotiate viatical settlement contracts between a viator and one or more providers, and "Not later than 30 days after negotiating a viatical settlement contract on behalf of a viator, a viatical settlement broker shall register". That is the application following the work, which this site has now met in three states in one day: Oklahoma's viatical broker notifies within thirty days of first acting, and Massachusetts's life settlement broker within thirty days of first acting. 8-603(c) then excuses the employees and agents of a registered broker or provider from registering separately, except as the Commissioner requires by regulation. The registration expires with the producer license it sits on, which is why the Administration prices its renewal at $50 rather than at the initial $250.

No national seller sells a course for this license. The Maryland products sellers do carry are all for a major producer line or for the adjuster paper; Aceable sells nothing in Maryland at all. The broker registers on a life producer license already held, so what a reader needs is a Life course, and those are priced on the Life page.
