The Kentucky Apprentice Adjuster license

Apprentice Adjuster

Adjusts claims in Kentucky for up to twelve months without sitting the adjuster examination, under a licensed adjuster who signs for you. It is a temporary license, it cannot be renewed, and nobody may hold one twice. Kentucky makes somebody else's license, rather than the applicant's own study or experience, the whole qualification.

    No state exam for this license

    A supervising adjuster

    • An attestation from a licensed independent, staff or public adjuster holding the same line of authority, stating that the apprentice will be subject to that adjuster's training, direction and control, and that the adjuster takes responsibility for what the apprentice does as an adjuster.

    and employment

    • Full-time salaried employment by an insurer or by an adjuster, held throughout. Compensation may be salaried or hourly and nothing else.

    KRS 304.9-432. The license exists for the applicant who meets every adjuster qualification except experience, and it is written as a relief from the examination rather than from a course: Kentucky asks no adjuster a course in the first place. It runs twelve months, is nonrenewable, and an individual may hold only one. The apprentice may sit the adjuster examination at any point during it, and passing terminates the apprentice license the same day and replaces it with the adjuster license. One class of apprenticeship is closed: for two years from April 13 2026 the commissioner may not accept or approve an application from anyone who would be supervised by a public adjuster, which is the same moratorium that closed the public adjuster license itself.
