The Kansas Reinsurance Intermediary license
Reinsurance Intermediary
One license covering both halves of the trade, the reinsurance broker who places cessions for a ceding insurer and the reinsurance manager who runs a reinsurer's business. a Kansas insurance agent license
- or
a producer license in another state whose reinsurance intermediary law is substantially similar to Kansas's, taking a Kansas nonresident reinsurance intermediary license
K.S.A. 40-4503(a) and (b) are the qualification and there is no course or examination in either. A reinsurance broker with an office in Kansas must be a licensed producer here; one with an office elsewhere must be a licensed producer here or in another state with a substantially similar law, or hold the Kansas nonresident license. A reinsurance manager for a Kansas-domiciled reinsurer must be a licensed producer here whatever the geography. The license costs no more than $150 to apply for and continues on an annual fee capped at $100 payable by 1 May, and it has no expiry of its own: it "shall remain in effect until suspended, revoked, voluntarily surrendered or otherwise terminated". Subsection (c) lets the Commissioner require a bond of a reinsurance manager for the protection of each reinsurer represented, and subsection (f) exempts Kansas attorneys acting in their professional capacity.

No Kansas examination and no course, so there is nothing to sell.
