The Kansas Portable Electronics Insurance license

Portable Electronics Insurance

A limited lines license held by the vendor of portable electronic devices, covering repair or replacement against loss, theft, mechanical failure, malfunction or damage. The license sits on the business rather than on the person selling, and a supervising entity that is itself a licensed producer or insurer keeps the register of which locations may sell.

K.S.A. 40-5603(a) says a vendor "shall be required to hold a limited lines license" and then sets the bar by reference rather than by a list of its own: pay all the fees an insurance producer pays, comply with all the same terms and conditions specified for a producer license, and give the Commissioner whatever else is asked for to judge professional competence, good character and trustworthiness. Kansas requires no pre-licensing course of a producer, so nothing of that kind arrives through the cross-reference, and Pearson VUE's July 2026 candidate handbook lists no portable electronics paper among the eleven it gives. The registry duty in 40-5603(b) falls on the supervising entity, which 40-5602(j) defines as a business entity that is itself a licensed producer or an insurer, and it must hand the register to the Commissioner on ten days notice.

Kansas gives no portable electronics paper and requires no course, so there is nothing to prepare for. No seller carries a Kansas product for this license.
