Every way to qualify

  1. Route 1 Be registered by a supervising travel insurance business entity

No state exam for this license

    The entity above it

    • A licensed travel insurance business entity registers the retailer on the Director's form, keeps that register current, submits it annually, designates a responsible producer for the retailer's compliance, pays the producer licensing fees and trains the retailer's staff. 1635(f) then authorizes the retailer to offer and disseminate travel insurance and to be paid for it.

and what the shop must hand over

    • Brochures or other written materials made available to prospective purchasers giving the identity and contact information of the insurer and the travel insurance business entity, explaining that buying travel insurance is not required in order to buy anything else from the retailer, and explaining that an unlicensed travel retailer may give general information about the cover and its price but is not qualified or authorized to answer technical questions about its terms and conditions or to evaluate the adequacy of the customer's existing cover.

215 ILCS 5/1635(b) gives the retailer a limited lines producer license of its own and (c) makes it conditional on the supervising entity doing five things. Nothing in the Act examines the retailer and nothing puts a pre-licensing course in front of it: 500-100(h) lifts 500-30 off limited lines producers generally. The Department's fee schedule prices it at $50 under 500-135(a)(4).

No national seller sells a course for this license. There is no examination, no course, and no application the retailer files on its own account: the supervising entity registers it.
